Description

The Institutional Edition of the eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base is the only peer-reviewed medical reference developed specifically for point-of-care in hospitals, ambulatory care centers, clinics, and private offices.

eMedicine is designed and built as a user-friendly, authoritative, and reliable decision-support tool for physicians. The content is created using templates to facilitate searching across a large amount of material. All content is peer reviewed for accuracy and relevance and is continuously updated to ensure that users are provided the most current information possible.

The eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base is now the world’s largest repository of original, peer-reviewed medical content. Some liken it to an online textbook of medicine in every specialty. Others view it as a huge reservoir of information that can be tapped for very specific needs, such as linking condition descriptions to a patient’s records or providing a treatment guideline in a care plan.

Available in the following configurations, this resource can be used as the foundation for your clinical information systems, providing your staff with the high-quality reference and learning tools to deliver better, more efficient, and safer patient care.

  1. Institutional Edition of the eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base: Licensed editions of the Knowledge Base for access throughout your hospital or system
  2. eMedicine SELECT: Licensed, co-branded, or private-label content for use within your existing workflow applications without the expense of creating and maintaining original content
  3. eMedicine Learning Center: An accredited continuing medical education (CME/CE) resource for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals

A Bit of History

The original eMedicine project began in 1996, with the initial objective of creating an accurate online medical textbook that could be updated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To manage the creation and maintenance of such an ambitious project, the company developed new content authoring, management, and distribution software, now patented, called the Group Publishing System™ (GPS).

Now in its second generation, this unique system makes possible the efficient collaboration of thousands of authors and editors as they write, edit, and review materials from remote locations. Using a highly structured format, specific content is placed in the same location for every topic, greatly improving the quality and speed of searches.

Today, the Clinical Knowledge Base contains over 6,500 peer-reviewed articles representing the best thinking of medical experts and supported by literature and evidence reviews. Nearly 10,000 physicians have collaborated to create this unique resource, and the content is continuously reviewed to maintain currency.
